The Bow Business
Stephen Thomson studied musical instrument making and repair at Merton College, Morden from 1994-6 after training in engineering. Qualifying with a City and Guilds in Musical Instrument Technology, he started work at J. P. Guivier & Co. Ltd. In 2001, he received lessons in bow repair and restoration with Derek Wilson, Anna Tummers and Linda Grove and became the first full-time bow repairer at Guivier's.
In 2006, Stephen turned self employed, making and restoring bows in Deptford, south London. Since then he has built up a reputation among professional players in the leading London orchestras and theatres, session musicians and music students.
