Sophie Wakefield

I am an artist and art psychotherapist (HCPC/BAAT) specialising in working with people with cancer and life limiting conditions, as well as with grief and loss. I co facilitate Queer Death Cafe alongside Marsh Ana. As an art therapist by training, I am able to offer a creative space with art materials to use alongside talking. Art making can be particularly helpful when it feels as though words aren’t enough, and allow us a safe way to express and understand difficult feelings and experiences. You don’t need any art skills and you might feel you would like to just talk, or interweave both into sessions.

Prior to training as a therapist I hold over 10 years experience working in community arts and mental health settings including for Tate, Studio Upstairs and Action Space. Creating a supportive therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my practice. I am psychodynamically informed with additional training in Compassion Focused Therapy.
