Youth Development Trainee

Based in Deptford, London, the Albany is a pioneering, multi-use performing arts venue with a strong focus on working with diverse communities. The Albany’s programmes and venue management also extend to two external sites, Deptford Lounge and Canada Water Culture Space.

We are seeking a motivated and hard-working young person, aged 18-25, to support the development of our ambitious youth-led programme at the Albany. The applicant will be passionate about the potential of young people and knowledgeable about the local area. The person given this role will be supported to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in youth work and creative practice.

Contract: 9-month fixed term
Hours: 20 hours per week
Salary: £18,060 p.a. pro-rata £8.68 per hour

Interview date: Monday 21 October

Key skills:

• A thorough understanding of the benefits of using drama, dance and music to work with children and young people

• A deep understanding in the qualities of good youth work

• An understanding of tools and techniques for working with young people to support them to make decisions and influence decision makers

• Confident in communicating with a range of different people from different backgrounds

• A good understanding of the local area and the different communities that live here

• An understanding that opportunities are not distributed evenly and a passion for equality

• Excited to support more youth led events taking place at the Albany

• Motivated and keen to learn

• Reliable with a professional attitude and excellent time keeping

• Hold a current Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to get one)

• Some flexible working will be required, with possible weekend working, evenings and some unsociable hours

• Willingness to work as and support the wider team
